Out of curiosity, I took the Analyze My Friends application in Facebook to view my own results. The output of yet-another-one-hit-wonder application is a list of your 5 closest friends based on an algorithm which I am about to deduce.
I got a premise from a friend that the analysis comes from the tally of friends tagged in one’s albums and the corresponding frequencies. And based on my result, it seems that’s the main contributing factor. 3 of the results popped out because of this certain album that all of us were present. And that album contains a lot of pictures.
Convinced?
Oh well, if I’m going to rewrite this program, the scores would be also based on
Application Rating: 0.5 out of 5.
And yes, this shoulda woulda Artificial Intelligence thing.

and…….. why 0.5 while it is actually working for most people?
hi raven,
the rating is based on the crudeness of the algorithm. i haven’t said that the application didn’t actually work. thanks for the reply anyways.
Totally true! My result was completely insignificant as well! In fact I took this test only 2 days ago, and funnily those names popped up, of whom that i haven’t even spoken to in ages, and some random people. Maybe, the application got confused, perhaps because of my whopping 1200 friends?! Forget those close friends whom you tag/get tagged or those frequent wall posts! =)
@Manali
Yes, the number of friends (1200! w00t!) is also a factor! Because the probability of each of your friend to be the “closest” is getting nearer to zero! So it just “randomly” pick friends.
It didn’t exactly give me my closest friends, but it did give me people I’m close to. My sister, my mother, my closest cousin, my step-father, and one of my closest friends. Only one was someone I would call a close friend. The others are people I love, but not my “close friends.” Based on that, I do think it has to do with photos. Someone else suggested page views, but I don’t know. I was at first somewhat impressed, even though it didn’t really pick my closest friends. Still, if you could rewrite it, that would be awesome.
@missin’
woah. if it is based on page views, then how does the app able to know who view my profiles? that’s against facebook’s TOA! that’s scary though! x_x
i don’t know if it’s true, it’s just something someone else said. It is very scary though!
@missin’
yeah. i also hope so.
although i would like to know who’s viewing my profile but then again it’s against the privacy stuff imposed by facebook. hahaha.
maybe, the wall post is also part of the algorithm since it is publicly available.
